Loss and depression often go hand-in-hand, and you may have experienced both over the last year. Thanks to the COVID-19 pandemic, they have been two terms that have been brought to light more than ever.

So many people have experienced a loss because of this pandemic. Maybe you had to deal with the death of someone you loved. Maybe your loss resulted from being let go from your job or watching your children miss out on things like sports and extracurricular activities.

You might even be struggling with the loss of normalcy.

Whatever the case, any kind of loss can make you feel alone and trigger symptoms of depression. That can be made worse when you feel as though you don’t have an outlet to find help.

Thankfully, online therapy is one of the best ways to ease the pain of loss and depression.

How Does Online Therapy Work?

Online therapy or “teletherapy” isn’t necessarily new. It’s been growing in popularity over the last several years. But, it has certainly seen a surge in light of the pandemic.

Online therapy works by making a virtual appointment with your therapist. It’s typically done via video chat over your computer or phone, but it can also be a regular telephone conversation, as well.

In some cases, you can email your therapist or use a specific platform to bring up discussion points or questions before your session. It can even be easier to contact them for “little things” when you need some extra help because everything is done virtually.

What Are the Benefits?

There are countless benefits to working with a therapist online. The biggest one, however, is accessibility.

Whether you’re social distancing, you don’t feel comfortable leaving the house, or you live in an area where there isn’t a therapist nearby, online therapy allows you to work with a licensed therapist from anywhere. You can find the right match for you, and it doesn’t matter where they’re located.

Another benefit is that you can schedule your sessions on your own time. You’ll be going through them from the comfort of your own home. If you’re struggling with depression, that can be an important factor. When you’re more comfortable with your surroundings, you might be more likely to open up and show your vulnerability. The more open you are with your therapist, the better.

How Can it Help?

Feelings of loss can make you feel alone. Combined with everything else surrounding this pandemic, that loneliness can be debilitating.

Online therapy helps you realize that you’re not alone, no matter where you are. Being able to actually see a licensed therapist on a screen and interact with them can make a big difference in how connected you feel. You’ll know you have someone to talk to, no matter what.

Additionally, online therapy can help you get to the root of the problem(s).

You might recognize some of the signs of depression, but do you really know why you’re struggling? It’s not always easy to admit the truth to yourself, even if the loss you have experienced is an obvious trigger.

A therapist can help you get to those underlying issues and bring them forward. The more you’re willing to open up and talk about them, the more you can start to heal from them. Online therapy can help give you the tools and skills you need to manage your symptoms on your own so you can move forward with your life.

If you’re struggling with loss and depression, you don’t have to keep living with the pain.

Consider online therapy to help you work through that loss. Feel free to contact me for more information or if you’re interested in setting up an appointment. Doing so could be the first step on a journey toward healing.

Online therapy has become “the norm” these days, thanks in large part to the COVID-19 pandemic.

But, even as there appears to be a light at the end of the tunnel for the pandemic, it’s likely that virtual therapy will remain popular. It’s opened up many windows for people struggling that simply weren’t there before.

That’s especially true for people who have experienced trauma at some point in their lives and are looking for ongoing help.

If you went through a traumatic experience, whether it was in childhood or more recently, online therapy can help you to find peace and control in your life again. Let’s look at a few of the lasting benefits.

It Can Give You Hope

Trauma is long-lasting. People who experience conditions like Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can struggle with it for years after a traumatic event occurs.

Unfortunately, far too many people suffer in silence. Some don’t get properly diagnosed. Others think they can work through it themselves. Some people are even embarrassed or ashamed by their trauma.

Online therapy can give trauma survivors hope, especially if you have continued to experience ongoing damage. It lets you know that even when things seem dark and bleak, you can find a place online to connect with a mental health professional.

Even before an appointment is made, the idea of being able to find help so easily and discreetly can provide a spark of excitement and hope in those impacted by trauma.

It Offers a Sense of Comfort

Some people with PTSD, or other issues due to trauma, don’t seek out help because of the shame they might feel. Again, there isn’t any reason to feel guilt or shame over a traumatic event. But, it can happen, depending on the type of trauma.

As a result, far too many people go undiagnosed. Or, they aren’t willing to make an in-person appointment with a therapist.

Online therapy allows anyone to get the help they need from the comfort of their own home. You can be anywhere in the world and talk to a therapist from anywhere else in the world. You don’t have to worry about running to friends or coworkers, going to an unfamiliar office, etc.

As a result, online therapy has opened up accessibility for those with issues from trauma. You may simply not live in an area with any therapists close by or want to make a long commute for each session.

Most people feel comfortable in their homes and in familiar surroundings. That level of comfort can not only help you seek out treatment for the first time but actually open up during that treatment, as well.

It Is On Your Schedule

The symptoms of a traumatic experience can strike at any time. You may need to speak with your therapist more than once a week. Or, you might need to simply send them a quick message or email letting them know how you feel about your next session.

Online therapy gives you a better opportunity to do that. The feeling of connectedness with your therapist is important. It can help you to feel less alone when you’re dealing with challenging symptoms like flashbacks or other negative symptoms.

While your therapist may not be able to respond immediately all the time, it can help to feel as though they’re more readily available. That is a huge positive that you don’t always get with in-person therapy.

Do you struggle with ongoing damage due to trauma? If you’re tired of the way it is taking over your life, online therapy can help. Feel free to contact me for more information about online sessions, and what you can expect.

Online therapy. Teletherapy. Telemedicine. Virtual health.

Whatever you want to call it, the process of practicing medicine online has become more popular and more important than ever. That is largely due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Many doctors and therapists across the country have opted to “go virtual” for the time being, seeing patients through a video screen, rather than in-person.

The current goal, of course, is to keep everyone safe.

But, there is a good chance that popularity will continue, even after the pandemic is over. Granted, there are some things that will always require an in-person visit. But, COVID-19 has improved online therapy in such a way that it’s likely here to stay.

In the midst of a pandemic that has caused so much harm, has it actually done something good? Let’s look at how it’s improved teletherapy, and why it will likely stick around.

It Has Expanded Access

Perhaps the most important thing COVID-19 has done for online therapy is to expand access to almost everyone.

People who live in rural communities or who may not otherwise have access to a therapist can now talk to one online. It doesn’t matter where they are or where the therapist is. Because more healthcare professionals have decided to opt for digital services right now, it’s giving more people the opportunity to take advantage of those services.

That also includes individuals who might not want to leave their homes, those with underlying illnesses, or people with mobility issues.

COVID-19 has increased the number of healthcare providers who are offering online therapy. As a result, it has also increased the number of people receiving help.

It Has Improved Patient Care

Online therapy has been around for quite some time. But, unless a therapist specifically focused on an online practice, they typically weren’t able to give patients the same level of attention and care they might need through video.

When a therapist still has an active in-person practice, online sessions may have used to come second.

Now, they have become a priority.

As a result, patient care for those attending sessions online has greatly improved. Therapists are more accessible when a patient needs them, and they are more likely to be able to connect with you at flexible times, rather than “squeezing you in” between in-person patients.

That level of care and attention is likely to continue after COVID-19. Now that people have come to expect it, anything less would be a step backward.

It Has Brought More Attention to Mental Health

Studies are already being released that show how COVID-19 is impacting mental health. People are experiencing extra stress and more severe conditions like anxiety and depression. Others are struggling with extreme isolation and loneliness.

Even children and teenagers are feeling the stress caused by this pandemic.

While we won’t know the full effects of how COVID-19 has impacted everyone mentally, chances are there will be a spike in mental health treatment over the next several years as a result of the pandemic. While that isn’t necessarily a good thing, it has made more people aware of the importance of mental health and the options for treatment.

People who may have never gone to a therapist in-person are now seeing the importance of mental health care. Family members are encouraging others to get help. Individuals are tired of feeling anxious and hopeless. Thankfully, online therapy can help with all of it in a way that it was never fully able to before.

COVID-19 has impacted almost everyone in some way. Thankfully, more resources are available to find the help you need if you’re struggling. Feel free to contact me if you would like to know more about online therapy, or if you would like to set up an appointment.

The COVID-19 pandemic has disrupted the lives of almost everyone in some way. But, there are two things it has caused that really can’t be denied; an influx of anxiety and a necessary push to take advantage of online resources.

People are working from home, children are going to school remotely, and even telehealth has become more popular than ever. These options were already available and growing in popularity before the pandemic, but now, they have become a necessity.

The uncertainty caused by COVID-19 (and other tense situations) has served to fuel anxiety for those who already struggled with it. Some studies have already suggested that the events of this year could create a mental health crisis in our country.

Because many therapists and counselors have been trying to keep patients safe, they have been offering online treatment options. But, some people are still hesitant to try telehealth.

If you’ve been on the fence about it, let’s talk a bit more about why online anxiety treatment works, and how it can help you.

It’s Accessible for Everyone

First, it’s important to note that one of the biggest reasons online treatment is successful is that it’s available. If you’ve been dealing with anxiety for a while but haven’t had the resources to see a therapist, online treatment is a great option.

Online therapy is perfect for anyone with mobility issues or chronic conditions that make it hard for them to leave their homes. Or, maybe you just don’t live near a therapist. No one wants to drive several hours, one way, just to get treatment. Online anxiety treatment is available for everyone, which makes it an incredibly important resource.

It Gives You a Push to Open Up

When you’re sitting in an unfamiliar therapist’s office, you might feel nervous. Maybe you have the type of personality that would cause you to close yourself off. That’s understandable. It isn’t easy to open up and be vulnerable when you’re uncomfortable.

Because online therapy is done from home, you can be more secure in your surroundings. It’s much easier to open up and share your feelings when you’re surrounded by a familiar space.

All you truly need for online anxiety treatment is a strong internet connection and a quiet place to work with the therapist during your session. By choosing a place where you feel safe and comfortable within your home, you’ll be more likely to be vulnerable and share things faster that you may not have shared before.

It Is Just As Personal as In-Person

One of the biggest “complaints” people have about online treatment is believing that it isn’t as personal as meeting face-to-face. That simply isn’t true. Thanks to advancements in technology, online treatment is more personal and communicative than ever.

Most online treatment sessions are done via video chat. That gives you the chance to see your therapist and vice versa. Because video quality is so strong today, it can often feel like you’re sitting in the same room together. A therapist can read your expressions and your body language just as they could if you were in person.

Some people do indeed prefer meeting in-person for anxiety treatment. But, that isn’t an option for everyone. You shouldn’t wait to seek out treatment just because you don’t want to see a therapist face-to-face. Instead, use the resources available to you to get help, including online treatment.

If you’re interested in learning more about online anxiety treatment, feel free to contact me. You’re not alone with the way you’re feeling. And, you don’t have to keep struggling if you aren’t able to see a therapist in person. Online therapy for anxiety treatment can work for you and help you to manage your symptoms, so you can take control of your life again.

Online therapy has become increasingly popular over the last few years. Advancements in technology have made it easier than ever for patients to connect with therapists all over the country.

As you know, there are many benefits to online therapy. It’s convenient, it’s accessible, and it’s often even less-expensive than in-person options.

The biggest benefit of online therapy, though, is how effective it actually is. There have been some questions raised as to whether it’s as impactful as in-person therapy. But, the good news is that it absolutely is, and it can help with everything from anxiety to depression.

So, why is online therapy so effective for alleviating depression? Let’s look at a few reasons why it works so well.

It Gives You an Outlet

Depression doesn’t have a ‘target audience’. People who live in rural areas are prone to mental health conditions just as much as those in busy cities.

If you live in an area that doesn’t have many mental health resources, online therapy can be the outlet you need to start taking control of your depression. It is available for anyone who needs it and wants to learn how to manage their symptoms and find peace.

There Are No Social Stigmas

Online therapy also gives you the opportunity to talk to someone without having to worry about being judged.

Unfortunately, there are still some stigmas surrounding therapy and seeking help for mental health conditions. You might even have some reservations about it, yourself. Online therapy can make the experience more comfortable for you. You can do it from the privacy of your own home, on a schedule that fits your needs.

When you are able to stop worrying about what others might think of you going to therapy (because they don’t have to know), you can put all of your focus on managing your depression and working through it with your therapist.

It Can Bring You Out of Your Shell

Speaking of sessions in the comfort of your own home, that can actually be a huge positive for people with depression.

When people have a mental health condition like depression or anxiety, they can often feel shy or even embarrassed about what they’re facing. But, when you feel safe in your own home, you’re more likely to open up and be yourself. Sitting in an unfamiliar therapist’s office can be intimidating, and it may take you longer to fully open up about how you feel. When you’re at home, you can feel secure in talking about yourself.

As a result, you’ll get more out of your sessions, and you may even get to the root of your depression faster.

It Gives You More Control

A wave of depression can hit at any time. Having to schedule an in-person appointment can feel overwhelming to someone with depression because they don’t know how they’ll feel when that time rolls around.

If you find that you’re calmer or clearer at a certain time of day, you can schedule your online therapy session then. Or, if you do have to cancel for any reason, you can reschedule for a time that works best for you when you’ll be relaxed at home.

Again, there are so many benefits to online therapy when you have depression. It allows you to try something new without having to necessarily step out of your comfort zone.

If you’ve been considering online therapy for a while, feel free to contact me to set up an appointment. You don’t have to deal with depression on your own. Together, we’ll get to the bottom of your depression and learn how to manage your symptoms on a daily basis.

Online therapy has become more popular (and necessary) than ever. Thanks to the COVID-19 pandemic, studies have suggested that mental health issues throughout the country could quickly become a huge problem.

But, this pandemic isn’t over yet. Many people are still being encouraged to stay home, wear masks, and practice social distancing. Unfortunately, the effects of loneliness and isolation are what is causing many of these mental health issues.

That’s where online therapy can make a big difference. It gives you the opportunity to connect with a licensed therapist no matter where you live or what your schedule looks like.

However, despite the many benefits of online therapy, there are still a few myths floating around that might be keeping you from getting the healing help you need.

Let’s cover a few of those myths, so you can learn the facts and truly decide if online therapy is right for you.

Myth: Online Therapy Isn’t As Effective As In-Person Therapy

Thanks to advancements in technology, most online therapy sessions are done via video chat. That means you still have the opportunity to see your therapist face-to-face. Most therapists are trained to pick up on everything from changes in your body language to the inflection in your voice, and they will be able to recognize all of that from a video chat.

In fact, you might feel more comfortable with online therapy because you can do it from your own home while still connecting directly to your therapist. When you’re in your own surroundings, you may be more likely to open up. Sitting in an unfamiliar office can feel overwhelming to some people.

With that being said, online therapy is just as effective as in-person sessions, and nearly everything is the same with the exception of the location.

Myth: There Are Too Many Distractions at Home

How distracted you become during an online therapy session greatly depends on how committed you are. Another major change many people are facing right now is having to work from home/remotely. How distracted do you allow yourself to get during the workday at home?

You will get out of online therapy what you put in. Commitment to your mental health means you make it a priority to stay focused. Make sure your family/roommates are on board with your sessions and that they know to leave you alone when you’re meeting with your therapist online.

Myth: It Isn’t Secure

One of the reasons people tend to be comfortable with in-person therapy is that it’s private, safe, and secure. There are myths that suggest online therapy isn’t secure or as private, but that simply isn’t true.

Granted, there are precautions you should take in order to make things as confidential as possible. For example, don’t have anyone else in the room when you’re going through a session unless you want them there. Again, make sure your family or roommates know that you need the time and space to be alone.

Additionally, it’s a good idea to make sure you’re always on a private network during your sessions. Internet issues can be a struggle for some people, so having a strong private network will make a big difference not only in the success of your sessions but how private they remain. Confidentiality agreements don’t change just because the sessions are online.

If you have been considering counseling for a while but some of these myths have been holding you back, now is the perfect time to read more about online therapy and try it. It is a safe and effective way to help you through healing your mental health. Feel free to contact me for more information or to set up an appointment.

Though things may slowly be starting to return to normal (or a “new normal”), there is no doubt that the COVID-19 pandemic has impacted so many lives in different ways.

For months, terms like “social distancing” and quarantine were the norm. Even now, not every establishment is fully open. Unfortunately, that left a big gap in mental health treatment options.

What’s worse is that it’s predicted that the mental health community will be in greater demand in the aftermath of COVID-19. People have been experiencing more fear, loneliness, isolation, and anxiety than before. That, combined with fewer facilities being open, could be extremely problematic for some people.

Thankfully, there has been a great rise in online treatment throughout the course of this pandemic. If you’ve considered telehealth options before, now is the perfect time to get started.

What is Online Treatment?

Online treatment, also known as telehealth or teletherapy, has become somewhat of a norm throughout this pandemic. It was on the rise before, thanks to advancements in technology. Now, however, it has become a resource for people who may not otherwise be able to get the mental health care they need.

Online treatment consists of meeting with a therapist or counselor over a virtual medium. Typically, it consists of a video chat that mimics a standard therapy session. But, instead of coming into a therapist’s office, you can do it from the comfort of your own home – or anywhere!

What Are the Benefits?

So, why might you respond best to online treatment? First, it offers accessible mental health care for everyone.

Maybe you’ve considered therapy before. But, if you live in a rural community or there aren’t any mental health services nearby, you haven’t been able to get the care you want. Most people don’t want to drive an hour each way just to attend a therapy session each week.

Teletherapy allows you to meet with a mental health professional anywhere in the world from your own home. So, whether you live far from a therapist or you have mobility issues or other health concerns that prevent you from getting out much, it’s a great option.

Additionally, online treatment can make you feel more comfortable.

Some people have a hard time opening up and showing vulnerability during a therapy session. When you’re in your home or another familiar place, you might be more willing to share things. You might wonder if talking to a therapist through a computer screen is as effective, but most respondents say that it is. You are still “face-to-face” with the therapist, so after a while, it’s easy to ignore that you’re both on a screen.

Finally, you might respond best to online treatment because it is flexible. When you feel like you’re on a tight schedule or a time crunch, you might not get the most out of a standard therapy session.

One of the great things about online treatment is that you can schedule it to fit around your needs. Some therapists even work from home, so they can set up your session after traditional business hours if that’s what works for you.

Finding Help With Online Therapy

The COVID-19 pandemic has caused a variety of issues, but it doesn’t mean you need to compromise your mental health state. Whether you’re struggling to deal with the impact of the pandemic or you’ve been considering therapy for a while, there is no better time than now to give online treatment a try.

If you’re interested in learning more about online treatment and how it can work for you, feel free to contact me for more information or to set up an appointment.

Online therapy, or “teletherapy” is becoming more popular than ever. It was on the rise even before the COVID-19 pandemic struck, but since stay-at-home orders have impacted the entire country over the last several months, online therapy has not only become a popular choice but a necessary one for some people.

Many therapists across the country have gone strictly virtual with their appointments during these uncertain times.

While it’s likely that most will return to in-person appointments at some point (and some may already have), online therapy is here to stay.

Thankfully, it can benefit everyone. If you’ve been considering therapy but you haven’t yet taken that first step, you might want to consider online therapy. Let’s talk more about why.

Online Therapy is Accessible

One of the biggest benefits of online therapy is that it is accessible to almost anyone. For some people, therapy may not be an option because of their location. This is especially true in more rural areas of the country. If you live in a community where the nearest therapist is over an hour away, it’s not practical to make the trip each week and can interfere with your schedule.

If you’re injured, have a disability, or mobility issues, it might also be difficult to get out of the house and travel. Additionally, some offices may not be equipped to handle your needs with things like ramps or other mobility aids.

Being able to talk to a therapist from the comfort of your home means you don’t have to worry about traveling or taking hours out of your day just to get the help you need.

Online Therapy is Personal

It might be easy to think that teletherapy wouldn’t be as personal or intimate as an in-person session. That simply isn’t true.

Thanks to advancements in technology, video chatting is one of the most popular ways to take part in a virtual therapy session. You can see your therapist and they can see you.

With that in mind, you can make the process more personal by finding a quiet place within your home with no distractions during your session. If you live with family, make sure they know not to interrupt when you’re talking to your therapist. If you’re willing to make the most of the time, it is just as personal as meeting in person.

Online Therapy is Less Expensive

Online therapy is often more affordable than traditional in-person visits for several reasons. First, factor in the time it would take you to get to a therapist in person, including the cost of gas. Being able to meet from home saves you those little expenses that can quickly add up.

Additionally, online therapy is often made cheaper by the therapists themselves. Some offer reduced rates because they don’t have to pay as much for the office space they’re using. Some therapists are even starting to cut back on time in the office to cut back on the cost of the rent. The lower the overhead, the more the savings can be passed onto you.

If you’re struggling with your mental health, whether you’re feeling depressed or anxious, you shouldn’t wait any longer to try online therapy. It’s convenient, easy to take part in, and you can connect with a therapist that fits your needs from virtually anywhere in the world.

Feel free to contact me for more information if you have any other questions about online therapy. Or, let’s talk about setting up a session. It doesn’t matter where you are (or what time zone). We can make it work and connect with one another, so you can take charge of your mental health today.

When you turn on the news, it’s hard to avoid some of the shocking stories connected to COVID-19. The reality that so many factors are out of anyone’s control can be unnerving.

Most people across the country are trying to navigate their way through this pandemic as best they can. While some states are trying to re-open, many are doing so in phases or encouraging people to continue practicing social distancing.

Even as we attempt to go back to normal, many things are still very different. Masks are encouraged and, in some cases, required in public settings. Sports seasons are being canceled, summer events are already being postponed, and more.

It’s easy to feel overwhelmed, stressed, anxious, and even depressed by the uncertainty of everything, especially when you feel like there isn’t anything you can do to change things.

But there are absolutely things that are within your control. And it’s important to focus on them in order to get through these uncertain times.

Focusing on What Is in Your Control

Every day, you have to make choices, whether you’re still in quarantine or your state has started to re-open. Focusing on things that you have no control over only increases anxiety, which includes symptoms such as excessive worry, sleep issues, or possible physical discomfort. Instead, to manage your stress and anxiety, choose to focus on making choices related to the things that are within your control.

For example, you’re in control of how often you wash your hands, how well you practice social distancing, and whether or not you wear a mask to the store. You’re also still in control of many everyday situations—from what to cook for dinner to what you watch on TV, read, or when to exercise.

While focusing on these everyday small choices may seem like something inconsequential, all of these things can help you feel a measure of control. Not just over your own life, but they can help you feel empowered to have an impact on how the situation with this virus may play out.

Focusing on the Positive

One of the things that are also within your control is what you “feed” yourself with each day. And we’re not talking about physical nourishment. The fact is, turning on the news can deplete you in an emotional sense by making you feel helpless and hopeless.

However, not all of the stories related to COVID-19 are so bleak. It might take a bit of extra effort on your part to find them, but there are also good things that have come out of this pandemic. For example, businesses and organizations are banding together to help people, schools across the country are delivering free lunches to kids, and neighbors are helping neighbors. You name it.

Of course, it’s easy to get caught up in the drama of the situation, especially if you spend your time on social media. But you can choose to focus on the positive instead. That doesn’t mean avoiding or ignoring the reality of the situation, but you don’t have to let it take over your life.

Looking Beyond the Present

Even after this pandemic passes, there will be plenty of things in life that are out of your control. Learning to focus on the things within your control now can help you to feel less stressed and more centered when dealing with new challenges in the future. In essence, you’re preparing for long-term success despite obstacles that could cause anxiety.

Of course, it’s not going to be a walk in the park. So, if you’re having trouble concentrating on the things within your control, or if the things that are out of your grasp are causing you stress or anxiety, you’re not alone. But that doesn’t mean you have to surrender and just let those uncontrollable factors take over your life. Help is available.

Feel free to contact me to find out more about how you can learn to shift your focus and concentrate on what you can control—not what you can’t!

Nearly everyone across the country (and the globe) has been impacted by COVID-19 in some way. At one point, 95% of people in the U.S. were under some sort of lockdown.

Many states are still under stay-at-home orders, leaving people “stuck” inside for another few weeks.

While these orders are important for flattening the curve (reducing the number of new cases) and keeping people safe, it’s easy to go a little stir-crazy when you feel forced to stay at home. For some people, it can even lead to anxiety, feelings of loneliness, or depression.

One of the things you can do to benefit yourself (and your family) while you’re at home is to keep a schedule. A schedule can make your daily routine feel a bit more normal, especially if you’ve just been playing it by ear each day.

Let’s take a look at some other benefits of keeping a schedule and how it can help you as you continue to navigate through these uncertain times.

A Schedule Can Benefit Your Mental Health

It might feel like stress is unavoidable at this point. But a schedule can help you to feel more on top of things and in control—even if the world feels chaotic. That can be a huge step toward keeping your mental and emotional balance.

First of all, when you have an idea of what your day will look like, you’re more likely to feel calm. Having things to do can also help you to combat stress and anxiety because it not only helps you focus on positive things but can also serve as a distraction from negative information. It can even make you realize that you have a purpose during this time of social isolation, which can boost your confidence, provide motivation, and even give you a bit more energy.

It Makes You Feel More Productive

Not only can a schedule make you feel like you have more of a purpose, but it can push you toward that purpose, boosting productivity.

When you feel like you have all the time in the world to sit at home and do “nothing,” it can zap your energy. And not accomplishing anything might even trigger feelings of depression or just general sadness.

In contrast, having a list and checking things off as you go about your day can keep you on track and help you to feel more accomplished. In turn, that feeling is a mood booster and a motivator to keep on going. Instead of feeling stuck and listless, you may come up with new projects to tackle.

How to Keep a Schedule While You’re Staying at Home

Don’t worry about what your schedule should look like. There aren’t any concrete rules suggesting what you should and shouldn’t write down to do throughout your day.

A good place to start is to develop a productive routine. Do things you were doing before the pandemic started. This includes waking up at the same time each day and going to bed at the same time each night. Everything from your daily shower, to exercise, to planning an activity with your family can be easier if you make it a part of your daily routine.

If you’re working remotely, set specific work hours during the day. And if you have kids, putting together a daily schedule—especially for schoolwork—can help them to feel less stressed and make them more productive too.

Some things will have to change, of course. Everyone is getting used to a “new normal,” and that calls for being flexible. Though this may not be forever, making the most of it now can make it easier to get through.

—

Keeping a schedule will help you to break up the long days of social distancing and self-isolation. Whether you feel like you’re going stir-crazy at home or the effects of this pandemic are impacting your mental health, a schedule to help you continue with a routine can make a big difference.
